In observance to the celebration of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR), the Norfil Foundation Incorporated held the 2016 Sports Festival for Children and Youth with Disabilities last June 17, 2016 at Ginatilan Elementary School. Hosted and supported by LGU-Ginatilan, the event was participated by children and youth with disability (C/YWDs) from the municipalities of Dalaguete, Boljoon, Oslob, Samboan and Ginatilan which are beneficiary-LGUs of Norfil Foundation’s Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program.
Fourteen (14) Dalaguetnon C/YWDs with some parents, Barangay Health Workers and staff of Community Development (ComDev) Office represented LGU-Dalaguete to this event. Despite of the long travel, the children had shown enthusiasm during the parade amidst of the scorching heat of the sun from Ginatilan Municipal Hall to Ginatilan Central Elementary School.
A short program was held after the parade and during lunch time, Jollibee and Hetty gave the participating C/YWDs fun and joy when, aside from picture-taking with the children, the mascots presented a special dance number. After lunchtime, sports events such as track and field, standing long jump, tennis ball throw, softball throw, basketball shooting individual, badminton and softball took place. Likewise, there were individual and developmental games which include piggy relay, cloths pin, match me relay, cup bowling relay and shape relay.
The Sports Festival was an enjoyable and worthwhile event for the participants. Unmindful of their discomfort and awkwardness, the C/YWDs showed their talents and competitiveness in all the games that they participated. Moreover, the children were given the chance to meet new friends thus improving their interpersonal relationship with other C/YWDs.
The delegates from Ginatilan coveted the 1st place as the overall champion while Dalaguete bagged the 2nd place. Other winners include Oslob for the 3rd place, Samboan for the 4th place and Boljoon for the 5th place. All participants received bronze, silver and gold medals.
On the way home, the happy faces of C/YWDs are reflection of their joy and contentment being able to take part in this tiring yet rewarding and worthwhile event.
Congratulations LGU-Dalaguete delegates!
