RAFI – Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. in partnership with Local Government Units of the Province of Cebu, National Youth Commission, Cebu Provincial Youth Commission, various Public and Private High Schools and Colleges of Cebu, Youth-serving Organizations, CenVisNet, DILG and the media converged together for the first time to talk more about youth development, possible projects and/or programs for the youth, and sharing thoughts and ideas about the new SK Reforms.
Held at RAFI – Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Centre in Cebu City last September 26, 2016. Themed “Understanding Choices Forum Future Leader Series” the forum intends to increase awareness on youth development and its components including involvement of the youth in our society as well as the different changes towards the youth’s personalities and attitudes. The highlight of the forum is the salient points of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 10742 or the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015. The forum also showcased the various youth engagement initiatives and featured different youth groups that have already been actively involved in affecting positive change.
Amid the many issues the youth is facing, National Youth Commission chairperson Aiza Seguerra – the guest speaker of the forum - urged the younger generation to stay focused since they have an important role in building a better country. "We can have a beautiful Philippines, a beautiful Cebu, beautiful barangays. We have to protect our ideals and don't let the world eat that passion of yours," said Seguerra.
Seguerra urged youth leaders who attended the event to play their part in helping the government achieve the change that is needed for the Philippines."Hindi kaya ng gobyerno lang. Dapat tulungan natin ang gobyerno. We should all help each other out. We should start caring for other people and spread out," he added.
The LGU of Dalaguete’s Five (5) Youth Coordinators or Leaders who attended the forum are: Joel P. Aliñabon – Municipal Anti-Drug Addiction Campaign Focal, James Russell T. Gelaga – Municipal Youth Focal/ComDev-Youth, Hon. Philip Joseph R. Encallado – Brgy. Consolacion Councilor/Youth Leader, Genesis Faith Dicdiquin – Parish Youth Coordinating Council Officer and, Julie Ann A. Trinidad – Cebu Provincial Youth Commissioner/Poblacion Youth President. They were able to learn ideas on how to properly manage or organize our youth and monitor them in such a way that they could establish a tighter and effective youth group in their barangay. Moreover, this forum is also the avenue for partnership towards different youth-serving agencies and organization/groups and gain support for the welfare of the youth.
