Municipality of Dalaguete commemorates the 120th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal
December 30. A single mention of this date in the government setting commonly conjures up images of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, our great national hero. On February 1, 1902, the Philippine Commission enacted Act. No. 35 which set December 30 as an official holiday in the country, known as Rizal Day. And on June 9, 1948, Republic Act No. 229 was enacted by President Quirino to create a committee to take charge of a formal celebration of Rizal Day in every municipality and chartered city.
The Municipality of Dalaguete, celebrated the 120th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, which was highlighted by the raising of the Philippine flag lead by the Dalaguete Philippine National Police Personnel at the Rizal Monument in front of the Municipal hall. This was followed by the laying of wreaths by the Municipal Officials, PNP Personnel, Dalaguete Fire Personnel, and DPWH employees.
A short message was given by the Acting Municipal Mayor, Hon. Jeffrey B. Belciña. Such yearly celebration in the municipality is to bring together the employees, as well the elected officials, to arouse nationalistic fervor and Rizal's significance in contemporary times.
