LGU-DALAGUETE SUPPORT TO DEPED’S SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
To attain the goal of the Municipal Government of Dalaguete (MGD) of providing quality education to children/youth with disability (C/YWDs), Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante, through ComDev Office, has initiated the Distribution of School Supplies to the in-school C/YWDs in 2014. Likewise, assistance such as meal allowance and transportation is given to these CYWDs in all activities under the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program of Norfil Foundation.
In addition, the Provision of Learning Materials to SPED Center has started in 2015. For school year 2016-2017, learning materials such as drawing, coloring and activity books as well as play dough (clay), crayons and plastic envelopes were given for the 21 C/YWDs enrolled at SPED Center.
Mrs. Divina Sandoval, SPED teacher and the newly installed principal of DCES, Mrs. Alice S. Carin, expressed their heartfelt gratitude on the continued support of MGD for the welfare of in-school C/YWDs.
The establishment of SPED Center aims to provide better access to basic education among children with special needs including the visually impaired, the hearing impaired, and those with Down Syndrome, autism and other disability.
In its effort to assist persons with disability (PWDs) including C/YWDs, LGU-Dalaguete has not only been proactive in initiating programs and projects that address their needs but has also ensured that national laws affecting this marginalized sector of society are implemented in the municipality.
