Dalaguete is slowly breaking the social stigma by conducting a community-based mental health clinic at the 2nd floor of Dalaguete Health Management Complex on Saturday, June 10, 2017.
Through partnership with the Philippine Mental Health Association - Cebu Chapter and with the constant support from various sectors of the community namely the local government of Dalaguete, the municipal health office, the municipal Social and Welfare Development office, barangay captains and their respective councilors on health, tanods and BHWs, as well as the members of Dalaguete Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Council, the event successfully served eighty four (84) mentally-challenged patients coming from different barangays in the municipality. Provincial Board Member Jose Mari “Tata” Salvador graced the activity with his presence and support for the program.
Mayor Allan Cesante presided over a consultative meeting in the afternoon with the Philippine Mental Health Association and physicians from the municipal health office to welcome the organization in the municipality and review the contract of service which sealed the agreement to provide mental health consultation services in the municipality every month. The team comprising of four psychiatrists, two of which specialized in pediatric cases, is expected to conduct their monthly consultation with the assistance from the municipal health office starting July 8 in two simultaneous clinics, one located at the Dalaguete Health Management Complex and the other at the Senior Citizen building in Mantalongon.
The health office is optimistic to increase awareness in mental health and empower Dalaguetnons to contribute in establishing an important foundation for the success of the municipality’s mental health program, giving these challenged individuals another chance in life as an integral and functional part of the community.
