The Commission on Population Region VII is on their third year in search for the best advocacy video material produced by students from different public and private high schools in the whole Region VII. This year’s search for the best advocacy film themed, “Post-Millennial Filipinos: Renewed Hope vs. Risks”, is dedicated to empower the youth to be more resilient and invulnerable in all social issues that they are facing right now.
Young people make up one fifth of the country’s population. That means 19.2 million youth, half of which are adolescents aged 15-19 sailing for adulthood in the next few years (YAFS 2013).
Many critical concerns affect adolescents that make a great impact on the society such as early marriage, maternal death, limiting access to education and employment, poverty, domestic violence, the threat of STI/HIV and AIDS, and may others. These issues represent a crucial and unique opportunity for the POPCOM (Commission on Population) and other concerned LGUs and agencies to address the diverse needs of adolescents and young people today.
As an initiative to strengthen the youth advocacy, public and private high schools were invited to join the Adolescent Health and Development Film Festival 2017.
The Dalaguete National High School headed by Mr. Roger Banogbanog, Mrs. Jackie Belciña – Production Coach, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Dalaguete through Mr. James Russell “Storm” Gelaga, was able to guide and assist student leaders from the school in preparation and production of the film titled, “KUNG DI GYUD DI GYUD” written and directed by Ms. Dailyn Amancio together with Ms. Stephanie Perez – Cinematographer/Editor. Along with all the support from the school teachers and colleagues, they were able to accomplish a unique film with two of their own original sound tracks.
Participated by more than 30 private and public schools from 4 Provinces (Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Negros), POPCOM together with their known adjudicators had a difficult time in selecting the top 15 film entries down to the TOP 7, whom they will recognize as winners for this year’s best film. Fortunately for Dalaguete National High School’s entry titled “KUNG DI GYUD DI GYUD” was able to bag an HONORABLE MENTION AWARD as top of the TOP 7 Best Film Entries all over the region. Cebu City National Science High School got the Best Film all over Region VII titled “PUHON” which will move up to the National level.
Atty. Bruce N. Ragas, the Regional Director of POPCOM VII, together with the adjudicators awarded Dalaguete National High School a plaque and certificate of recognition plus a cash prize last October 23, 2017 at Azia Suites and Residence, Rahmann Ext., Cebu City. Congratulations to all the cast and crew as well as the ones who helped the production and the film a successful one. The film will be part and used for POPCOM’s advocacy against Teenage Pregnancy and STI/HIV/AIDS which will be shown all over the Philippines.
